Daily controller medicines can help prevent
asthma symptoms.
There are 2 main types of treatments: rescue medications and controller medications. Rescue medications, such as fast-acting inhalers, respond quickly to symptoms. Controller medications are preventive and work to help stop symptoms before they start.
Controller medicines include:
Inhaled controller medicines
- Some may contain steroids.
Oral controller medicines
- Steroid-free options are available.
Of course, even with a daily controller medicine, you should always have a rescue inhaler with you to quickly relieve symptoms and help stop attacks.
